Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a concept is about companies that integrate social as well as environmental concerns into their business operations. CSR is recognized as being the medium for a company to get a balance of social, economic and environmental imperatives.

What made social responsibility mandatory for Corporate

The Companies Act 2013 has mandated that corporates make their contribution to the betterment of society and the environment. They have to spend part of their income as their responsibility towards society.

Section 135 of the act asserts that companies with a net worth of INR 500 crores or more or a turnover of INR 1000 crores or more, or a net profit of INR five crores or more, during any financial year, should form a CSR committee and fulfill other CSR-related requirements. Corporates have to spend 2% of their net profit on social activities in pursuance of CSR policy.

Why Partner with MukkaMaar

Since 2018, MukkaMaar has impacted the lives of thousands of girls through its 3-year in-school program ‘MukkaMaar Girls’ in Mumbai. This program is conducted in partnership with the BMC Education Department. MukkaMaar encourages self-determination among young girls by enabling them to participate in activities that boost self-esteem, confidence, resilience, assertiveness and critical thinking. These are life skills that any girl in the 21st century should be equipped with to empower themselves.

MukkaMaar works to ensure that girls from a young age are aware of how to identify violence of all forms. The cycle of violence and its everlasting effects in creating and maintaining systemic barriers for women are also taught to them as a part of their school education. Through this, they can learn to break down these barriers of gender discrimination.

MukkaMaar uses fitness and physical development as tools that are taught to the girls to protect and defend themselves from violence. This includes incorporating martial arts and boxing methods that teach them self defence techniques and build physical strength in them. These practices help girls develop their physical potential and shed the idea of presenting as the ladylike soft women that society has imposed on them.
