Asmita’s Journey – My MukkaMaar Fellowship Experience
“If I speak, my happy place is being with the girls in school. I was a little lonely on this journey, but later on, I felt that if I was alone, so what, all these girls are with me.”
I have always been the type of person to care about those around me and always wanted a career where I could help people to improve themselves and/or the situation they are in. I felt MukkaMaar was the perfect career path for me as the whole nature of the job is to support and empower people within society.
This will be one more year in my journey of MukkaMaar in which I have seen a lot of changes in myself and in the people where I work, especially girls. Their confidence level has increased so much that I can’t express it in words. In the journey of MukkaMaar, I have broken many rules in my family and have also learned some new things. Like I have broken the rules of my house, which has given me a lot of fun and happiness. This change has not come easily and quickly. I can’t express the relief I get from breaking the rules, maybe that’s because I work here and stay connected with the girls. I have learned that if you are ever troubled or have any problem in your life, then stay connected with those where you work.
Now let’s talk about the changes that have taken place in the girls. I feel that whatever they can learn here, they go home and apply it. When we meet them at least once or twice a week, they tell us how they apply it. “I will tell you, Dost, what you asked last time, in our house also boys don’t do any work, everywhere it’s like that only.” Earlier this girl was afraid to come on stage, now she is confident and leads the sessions along with me. I divide the class and let girls lead other younger students in class, so they can learn from each other.
So I want to say thank you to MukkaMaar for giving me this opportunity to empower girls so that their confidence level works anywhere, in their life and whatever problem it is in the world, they can solve it immediately.
